\n
\n

Vines<\/h2>\n

Our intention is to observe the vines within their own micro-ecosystem and give them what they need for healthy growth. A healthy grapevine is resilient and therefore less susceptible to infestation by fungi or insects.<\/p>\n

Soil<\/h2>\n

First and foremost, we focus on good soil cultivation that gives the vine strength right from the roots. Depending on the vineyard site and soil conditions, which we analyze through soil samples, we use organic fertilizers such as composted green cuttings and manure, and completely refrain from mineral fertilizers. These sustainable fertilizers benefit soil life\u2014tiny organisms and microorganisms\u2014and have been used for generations to supply the plant with nutrients.<\/p>\n

Erosion Control<\/h2>\n

A cover with straw or composted green cuttings ensures significantly less erosion during heavy rainfall\u2014especially on our slopes of the Roter Hang\u2014and helps regulate rainwater more effectively. The underlying soil can store precipitation better, and we create additional habitat for essential small organisms and insects such as earthworms, beetles, and many more that loosen the soil and enrich it with nutrients.<\/p>\n

Cover Crops<\/h2>\n

Greening the vineyard rows\u2014on the one hand with grass mixes for better drivability, on the other in late season and in young vineyards with taproot plants such as yellow mustard or oil radish\u2014is another essential component. They help prevent erosion during heavy rain, and taproot plants in particular loosen the soil, ensuring good aeration and a living soil. In addition, late-season cover crops retain nitrate that would otherwise be leached out during the wet season; it is stored and can be r<\/p>\n

Canopy Care<\/h2>\n

Another important component is canopy care. By continuously trimming the shoots, the vine can channel its energy into healthy grape growth. Excess shoots are removed by hand so the vintner can determine and promote the individual growth of each vine. We pay close attention to an airy canopy so the grapes dry quickly after rainfall. This prevents unwanted rot and fungi, allowing us to deliberately avoid excessive use of crop protection products. Leaf removal in the fruit zone enables special aroma development through sunlight exposure. It also thickens the grape skins, making it harder for potential fungal spores to gain a foothold.<\/p>\n

Insect Protection<\/h2>\n

We achieve particularly comprehensive protection against the grapevine moth by hanging pheromones. These are the natural messenger substances of the female moth that attract the male for reproduction. The scent in the vineyards confuses the males so mating cannot occur. As a result, the wrapping of the grape clusters by the larvae is prevented and insecticides can be avoided.<\/p>\n

Terroir<\/h2>\n

It is our great passion to observe the terroir of each individual vineyard and to understand the vines within their unique ecosystem with great care and sustainability.
